InterConsultation™

This is a process developed by the founders of Best Doctors at Harvard Medical School, with the aim of providing a greater level of accuracy in diagnosis and treatment.

This is not just a second opinion. It is the opportunity to have a world-leading expert who specialises in your condition review your case, following which they provide an in-depth analysis and confidential recommendation.

It is designed to complement your own doctor’s diagnosis and possibly provide valuable additional information that they can use in your treatment plan.

Call Best Doctors and you will be assigned a Member Advocate to act on your behalf. Your medical records are then collected and analysed by an internal doctor, who creates a clinical summary. The most appropriate expert in your field then reviews this summary along with your medical records, and in some cases even has your samples retested at leading institutions.

Many of these experts work in highly respected centres of excellence such as Johns Hopkins, The Mayo Clinic, Mount Sinai, and leading hospitals within Australia.

The expert then writes a confidential report, including diagnostic and treatment recommendations. Best Doctors then reviews the report and shares it with you, and with your treating doctor if you so desire.

To date, the input of these experts has led to a change of diagnosis in roughly 15% of Australian cases and a suggested treatment change in 25% of cases.

This second service for CBHS Corporate Health Premium Package (Gold) members is a way for you to obtain answers to questions you may have about your medical condition that don’t require a complete review of your records.

Call Best Doctors and they’ll ask you about your medical history and what questions you want answered. They then match your questions to the most appropriate expert on their database and forward your questions to them.

The expert will then review your questions and provide answers, recommendations and treatment options in a comprehensive, personalised report, which you will receive within 5 to 7 days.

As all your contact with Best Doctors will be over the phone or the Internet, you do not need to travel, visit doctors’ offices or contact your doctor(s) to obtain records, images or other information related to your medical case.

WHO ARE THE DOCTORS BEST DOCTORS USES?

  • Best Doctors physicians include the world’s top medical specialists. They are selected by other doctors through a comprehensive review process. Best Doctors surveys doctors to find out which doctors they trust most. Every doctor in the survey is asked, “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in a certain specialty, who would you choose?” Doctors cannot pay to be included on the Best Doctors list or nominate themselves for consideration.

  • No. You remain in full control of your healthcare decision-making. The information you receive from Best Doctors is intended to help you make informed decisions regarding your diagnosis and/or treatment plan, and only you can decide whether you want to share the report with your treating doctor or not. Best Doctors will not share your report with your doctor unless you authorise it.

    Most doctors find that collaboration with other experts is very helpful, especially in complex situations. Best Doctors enables doctors to collaborate in a new way.
